Amazon's: The Origin

So I have briefly touched on this in the past, but I want to address it more head on (applied directly to the forehead). How should WW, and for all ‘Amazon’s’ for that matter, be introduced into a ‘realistic’, ‘believable’ DCU? I have listed a few options below, and determined their pros and cons. And let me just say, this is solely to discuss her ‘origin’. Not her powers or stupid, useless jet. Just her birth/introduction to the world. Let’s do it to it.

Original Comic Book

In her original, comic book origin, she is the daughter of Queen Hippolyta born on Themyscria (Paradise Island) to a race of Amazon Warriors. She is birthed from her mother forming her out of clay. She is the princess of Themyscria (Their home island), and the islands fiercest warrior. The Amazon’s draw their powers from the Greek Gods (Zeus, Haiti’s, etc.). She lives on the island with only other Amazonian women. The island is hidden, from man and the outside world.

PROS: It’s the classic origin that many know. The Gods aspect is what helps set her apart, and the sisterhood and womanhood make her WW.

CONS: It’s a ridiculous story for this live action format in this new DCU. It is hard to make the Greek God aspect work in film format. This doesn’t work.

New 52

She is now a child of Hippolyta and Zeus. Still on the island. Still has powers.

PROS: At least she isn’t from clay. Since Zeus is the God, this also gives her a way to be ‘more’ powerful than the others on the island.

CONS: It’s still a hard sell for the Gods. Also, what does this mean about the other God-like offspring? I mean, if the Gods have tons of key parties and just do the deed with whomever, then what about the other births? Do all the girls born go to Themyscria? I don’t buy it.

Kryptonian

Let me just say, this was first brought up by writer at BatmanOnFilm, and is just a thought. But, what if she is of Kryptonian decent? We saw in MOS, Kara’s open chamber. At the time, she also had a fully functioning birthing chamber. Which she could easily customized to create only women. Therefore giving a new organization of woman; who would be thought of as Gods in those times.

PROS: It’s a believable approach. And she would keep her abilities.

CONS: Kryptonian’s don’t live forever on Earth. They age. And given the fact the Scout Ship was under the ice for 18,000 years. That means no more new Kryptonian/Amazonian people for 18,000 years. They don’t live that long. Doesn’t make too much sense.

Another Alien Race (My Theory)

So, what if thousands of years ago, Earth were visited by an alien race; separate from Kryptonian’s. But, came from a similar environment such as Krypton? (This way still giving them abilities) And, they landed near Greece. The people from that era would call them gods. And maybe their names were; Zeus, Ares, etc. The power could have gone to (some of) their heads, giving the people evidence to calling them “Gods of …”.

A major battle between the race of aliens (Men vs Women?) brakes out. Due to the fact that most males were too unruly to the humans. After the battle, which the women win, they retreat from the rest of the world; saying that the two races need to live separately. They find salvage in a remote location, near or even in, the Amazon. And it’s not all women. The ratio is about 70-30, women to men. Men are happy there.

PROS: It’s a believable approach. They would keep her abilities. Not all of the Amazon Rain Forrest has been explored. Also, this allows a device to make her weaker. She is still god-like, but just to make her a little more vulnerable.

CONS: Another alien race? An entire civilization not found, in thousands of years?

However they handle her backstory, I have faith in Goyer, Snyder and team. But let me know what you think. What origin story would you give WW and the Amazons? Comment below. Thanks for reading.
