I thought instead of writing several, separate articles about this one major story, I figured I would write one that sums it all up. So let's jump right on in.
Perspective
Yes, we have all of these wonderful DC/WB announcements coming our way at the moment, but let's just keep one thing in mind... It's only a movie. Now to many/most of us it represents more than just another multi-million dollar film, but at the end of the day it is all just people playing pretend. So let's keep our heads cool. We can debate and have fun with ideas, but let's not get carried away with it all.
In The Works
So we know Justice League (Yeah I can italicize!) is following MOS 2. However, WB also recently stated they have eleven DC properties films in the works. Including: Justice League, Shazam, Fables, Metal Men, Sandman, and 100 Bullets. Thus leaving four title yet to be announced. Now, first off, this means nothing. Yes they are "in the works" but do you know how many projects every studio "has in the works"? Here's a hint, A LOT. And though we know JL and Sandman have been announced, the others are just tabled right now. So don't start blankly confirming anything. And P.S. I don't believe they are all to be part of this new DCU.
Approach
I must say, I love WB/DC's angle on their universe expansion. Marvel set up every story before Avengers. And that made sense, considering know one really know who they all were; but most people know Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. So in this DCU, it makes sense that Supes origin began with Batman and WW already existing in his world. The rest of the members, however, will most likely need their origin. And we already know at least Cyborg will have an intro for his origin in MOS 2.
The Team
So we know Supes, Bats, WW, and Cyborg are attached, but who else? What if it's...no one. WHAT? Those four don't make up the Justice League!? Hear me out. What if the first JL movie only consist of the partial team's core members? This would not only help the story by not forcefully adding another origin story, and could strengthen the sequel(s) by adding more members. And between the JL films, we introduce Flash and GL in their own origins. Booya!
But, even in the end, who makes up the team? Well to me it seems to be leaning toward the New 52. So, in that case, the rest of the core team would/could be made up of Flash (Barry Allen - John Krasinski), Green Lantern (Hal Jordan - Justin Bartha), and possibly Aquaman (Author Curry).
Man of Steel 2
So, before hand, many thought that the sequel to Man of Steel would turn out being JL. But, even though I still believe this will be Superman/Batman centric, this seems to be leading right into JL (As stated by Greg Silverman). So the rumors about a possible 2018 or even 2017 (Probably 2018 at best) release date doesn't seem to far fetched. And while many complain about the overcrowding issue, I say don't worry about it. As we now know, these roles will be smaller, helping establish the characters for more important roles in the JL movie.
Warner Bros. Backbone
The biggest complaint fans had/have with EB is that they seem to lack confidence in their DC projects. Well can we really say that anymore? They not only have confirmed JL prior to MOS 2, but we are gradually getting a slew of more characters, ever expanding this DCU. They seem to have a plan and story for at least the near future. And with the possibility of Affleck directing his own Batman films (What a dream) and adding the talent of Chris Terrio (Argo) to help Goyer strengthen their story and characters, WB seems to be aligning their ducks.
So there you go. Some insight (?) into the inner workings of the WB/DC mindset. But let me know your thought on the whole situation. How should WB introduce the rest of the team? Comment below. Thanks for reading.
